Our Adoptees

I’m a sweetheart of a gal looking to spend my golden years in a forever home. I may not be a teddy bear dog breed, but my coat is snuggle-licious, and I’m a softie at heart. I am ecstatic about playing fetch and working hard on learning my basic commands. Yet, crazy as it sounds, I’m basically a couch potato with a lot of energy. I like to go, go, go, then pass out on the couch for a good nap. My enthusiasm for life, love and learning is beyond comprehension!

Just 5 years old and weighing 65 lbs, Bentley is looking for his forever home anywhere within a reasonable distance of New York City. She’s a very loved and very cared for member of her family. A LOT. They reached out to us to help find Sadie a home where she will be safe from getting loose. She’s a high risk for getting lost, injured, or worse. 4 year old, Millie, is searching for a special home that can help her find her confidence.

Breed: American Staffordshire terrier mix

However, some have no idea how big and strong they are and could accidentally knock over a small child or senior adult. Please consider ALL family members when looking to welcome a boxer into your home. Before adoption, our dogs are healthy to the best of our vets’ knowledge. They are brought up to date on vaccines, tested for heartworm, and spayed or neutered .

Having a deaf dog like me will require a little extra effort and patience, but I promise you I’m worth it. Unfortunately, I am currently heartworm positive. The good news is that I’m young and have no symptoms, so I’m expected to fully recover! And my shelter is paying for the rest of the treatments, so no worries about cost. I’m not sure how I feel about cats yet, but I do well with kids as long as they understand basic boundaries.

Breed: Mountain cur and labrador retriever mix

There is no guarantee either way, and there is also no way of predicting how quickly this will happen. I’m spunky, brave, athletic, fun to be around and generally the life of the party. When my puppy energy runs out, I’m ready for cuddles and snuggles. There are a lot of things shelter dogs want you to know, but the most important is that we want to have a second chance at happiness. I was brought in as a stray, and no one claimed me, but I don’t have any known medical or behavioral issues.

The present owner saved Tonto’s life by taking him on at two days old and hand raising him. He had a hole in the top of his head, bad reflux, and other health issues. The owner made sure he had the best medical care, and he came through it all a strong and healthy pup. Other than maintaining some of his puppy behaviours and has yet to learn some manners in certain areas of life, things went along fine with the two older dogs. This is causing stress to all the dogs and the owner and cannot continue.

She had a chronic ear infection, and her nose was all infected too, all of this was treated, and she was placed on ultra-hypo food. She is now doing well, and everything has cleared up – she is much happier in herself and looks a lot better for it. She is very sweet and loving and full of fun. He is a full-on strong boy but affectionate and playful.

Anyone interested in adopting him I will discuss his needs in more detail with you but at present he is stable. He was found in the pound so had not had the best start to life - he had a wound on his head that has now healed but has left a scar which you can see on the top of his head. All adoptions are subject to homechecks and adoption fees. If you are the very special adopters who are looking for a little pro ... Just like humans, we can experience health issues as we get older. I have some arthritis in my hips, an enlarged heart (don’t worry—it’s not causing any issues) and some extra protein in my urine. Frida has some limping of her rear limbs, a heart murmur and kidney issues. Regular vet checkups are a must to monitor our conditions. It might not take long for a rescue dog to adapt to its new home and settle in, as if they’ve been there forever. On the other hand, it might take a longer time.

Your donations will help AABR to continue to provide ongoing care. AABR has several dogs right now in need of a foster home. Sadly, we have had to turn away many boxers that are in danger in shelters because we simply have nowhere for them to go. Around holidays and vacation times our need is even greater. We’re two sweet little muffins that have so much going for us.

All of the dogs featured below are "Forever Fosters" with AABR. They are not currently available for adoption for a variety of reasons. Some of these dogs have significant medical needs, some are in the final stages of illness, and some may have special emotional/behavioral needs. These dogs will live out their lives in a safe and loving foster home.

BJ and his owner, Abel, look forward to meeting you. Lilly was discovered when her guardians attended their daughter’s soccer game and found her romping from game to game, playing with the children and chasing the ball. She was having so much fun, and it was clear that she was a very joyful dog. They took her home hoping to find her family, but have had no success. They are dearly hoping to find this very friendly, sweet, playful and affectionate dog her forever home.
